What a day! I thought I would get a head start on everything at school so I went in early but around 1 I was invited to a wedding in the village. I guess it is common practice to invite the entire village by word of mouth instead of sending out invitations. I was told to wear clean clothes... not necessarily dressy clothes. The church was packed with people. We were lucky enough to get a seat in the back. The ceremony lasted a little over an hour and was similar to a ceremony in the Lower 48. The wedding party wore blue and pink kuspuks and the groom wore a white kuspuk. The bride looked wonderful in a traditional lower 48 gown. The children in the audience were quite restless but I was able to hear the preacher well enough from the back. At the end of the ceremony the wedding partied lined up so we could wish them well. Everyone was very thankful that we came and welcomed us to the village.
Afterwards, we were invited to the wedding feast at the armory. It truly was a feast. They fed the entire village. They had ptarmigan, moose soup, fish soup, fresh salmon, different types of rice, home made bread, jello, salmonberry agudak, and homemade cake! So yummy! I'm planning on going to church tomorrow so we'll see how that goes. Below are some pictures of my apartment and sunrise.
