PIZZA!!! My mentor came today from Anchorage and she brought pizza! We were all so excite. It's the little things that count. Not much happened yesterday. I was called into the school because the principal read an email from HR stating that I wasn't certified in the state of Alaska and if I didn't become certified by the 20th of September they would have to "begin the termination process." Luckily, when I called the Alaska Department of Education they told me that I have been certified since the beginning of August. Strange... They said that they had just forgotten to update my status online and send me my yellow card. Hahahaha! Freaked me out for no reason. I was so bummed on Sunday of the thought of having to move back to Illinois. I shipped everything here, bought all of my food, etc., and I was going to have to move back. I knew deep down that everything was going to work out :-)
Anyways, crazy Monday at school but the school day flew by. I have rearranged my schedule so I have more time with my students. In Algebra today, we did amazing things. One student actually said that she was having fun learning about the distributive property! I didn't here one, "So boring..." all class long. We are also going to rethink the format of our classes and maybe do some small group stuff. I'm excited to see what we come up with. Almost all of my 7th graders have passed their long division and multiplication facts. I love working with them to master their facts and when they go up to test, and pass, I love the smiles that they have on their faces. They are so proud yet never boastful! What great kids!
