I am still getting used to the excess of technology here.  I'm somewhat overwhelmed by having to use my iPhone, macbook, and SMARTboards.  Today we had an inservice and it was via the VTC, over the internet using cameras.  But these weren't any cameras... they were remote controlled and displayed on flat screen TVs.  I was impressed.  It was like I was at the District Office.  I realized that things were different when, for a door prize, they announced that a plane was standing by to deliver fresh donuts to the winning village!  What a prize that would have been!  What a tease as well... we didn't win :-(  But Emily and I did make pumpkin pies last night for our principal's birthday.  Yum!

My food packages seem to be coming in one at a time so I am still a little restricted on my diet.  Luckily, I had the foresight to bring some cereal, soy milk, and pasta in my checked baggage.  Its kept me alive so far and Emily and I have been trading cleaning for food :-)  Where there's a will there's a way.

We took a walk today around the village and I was able to meet a lot of the younger children and parents.  Everyone was very welcoming and excited to meet the new teachers.  When I walk around the village I am usually followed by a small herd of children asking me questions.  They follow as I walk for awhile and then without notice decide to take another route and are gone.  Their place is always taken by another child.

(I'll upload pictures tomorrow. My internet here is too slow.)

Emily and I visited went to a friend's house today that lives in the village.  It was nice to be able to go somewhere to relax outside of school and my apartment.  I was able to try some salmonberry akutaq. It was delicious!

Oh!  And I have yet to get keys but a bed and dresser appeared in my room today!  What a great day!  Woo Hoo!

  1. I am shocked by this technology you speak of! I thought you would be writing on rocks with mud after hearing some of your stories. Haha j/k. I'm sure that really helps the students. Have they had that kind of technology long?
