Can you pass the test?

Wednesday, September 27, 2012

It's 11:40 p.m. and I am in bed eating some miniature candy bars (thanks mom :-)) in my newly decorated room (thanks dad and Ang :-)) drinking a huge glass of water!  For those of you who have kept up with my blog...

Question 1:  What did I just get done doing????  (HINT: got home late at night and am drinking a lot of water)

Answer 1: I just got back from maqii or steaming.

It was quite a day!  For some reason the kids were off and so were us teachers.  Add in the fact that the power went off twice and the water turned off once and you have quite a day!  LOL!  But it was still wonderful and went by so quickly!  And in addition to all of that I received my $400 meat order in the mail!!!  Woo hoo!  I have fresh bison and chicken and beef and turkey and goat cheese!  We had after school club today, which means that my day at work doesn't end until 6:30 but I really love doing after school club.  The students that come are all well behaved and love the one-on-one attention that they get.  We do academics and homework help for the first hour.  The students get a snack and then we get to do something fun for the second hour.  I taught the students how to play spoons (with sharpie markers of course!  LOL!)  They LOVED it!   It is so wonderful to see these quiet reserved girls jumping over the table to grab a sharpie marker and shouting out and giggling while they play the game.  They are consumed by the face-pace of the game and seem to forget all of their reservations.  Anyways, we had a great time at after school club and then I went to Emily's and she had made me some caribou burgers from meat that her friend had shipped her from North Pole.  I guess her friend's husband got a caribou and was willing to share some of the meat!  Yum!  What a feast!  I even brought my goat cheese and avocados that I had just received from my Full Circle order to have on the burgers and Emily had baked up some acorn squash!

I stayed over there for awhile and as soon as I got home one of the secretaries from school text me asking if it was too late for her to pick me up so we could maqii.  I responded that it was never too late to maqii so I packed a bag and met her outside.  Her auntie came over and we took our time steaming and talking.  I learn so much when I maqii!  So much about the village and the culture and the food and the language.  It is such a relaxing experience :-)  Well I know I am going to sleep hard tonight and I want to make sure I wake up on-time so I am going to say goodnight :-)

My New Photo board!  (Thanks Dad and Ang!)

It was just beautiful this weekend!  You can tell by the clouds that it's getting colder.

Construction at the airstrip.  The new airstrip opened and it's going to have lights in a few months!  Woo Hoo!

I let Emily drive the 4-wheeler to the post... she covered me in mud :-(
Bahahahahahaha!  KARMA!  She lost her boot in the mud when she was getting off the 4-wheeler!  I'm still laughing about it!
