It has been raining since we got back from Toksook.  The winds have been pretty bad and people have been talking about the storms that have been coming.  I have been told that they usually don't experiences winds this bad (40-50 mph) until after the ground freezes.  The ground freezing somewhat anchors everything into the ground.  People are worried what the winds will do to the village.  Oh the effects of global warming... even Alaska isn't protected from it.

Yesterday and today are quiet have been quiet days.  I baked some blackberry scones!  They were so yummy!!!  (Mom, I used the blueberry scone recipe from the scone cookbook you got me.)  Everyone has loved them and I think I am going to have to make a few more batches because they went quick.  I also want to make some blackberry pancakes so once I get a toaster oven I can reheat them all winter long :-)  A few of the teachers got together and we made dinner and played board games afterwards.  For Labor Day we had grilled sausages, pasta salad, and fresh guacamole.  What a treat!

It is so windy today but I really want to go to the post and check my mail.  I haven't been there in about a week and I'm still waiting on a few more packages.  Man how time flies!  I've already been here for a month.  I text some of the new teachers, asking if they wanted to come to the post with me.  They all responded that I was crazy for which my response was that it's going to be a long winter if won't even go outside in a little rain and wind.  LOL!  We are supposed to fly to Bethel today for the district wide inservice tomorrow but we aren't sure if we will be able to fly with the crosswind that is coming across the airstrip so we'll just go about our daily business with our bags packed... waiting...

When I saw Kipnuk, coming back from Toksook, I experienced that familiar feeling that you get when returning home.  I think it was my first realization that Kipnuk is now my home.  I stepped off the plane and it felt so good to see the familiar sight of the village.
