Hi everyone! I am safely back in Kipnuk! It feels great to be
back... I was missing it a lot. It's good to see that a lot of people
have been catching up on my posts during my time away. So much has
happened in the past few days and I have only been back a week! So
crazy! I was definitely thinking that since it is the beginning of the
semester I would get back and school would start out nice and slow while
became acclimated to being back.... Hahaha! I couldn't have been more
wrong!
This is the second time that I am writing
this... I thought that I could avoid telling my tales of traveling but I
have come to realize that they are so funny and such a huge part of
living in rural Alaska. I hope you get a good laugh out of my troubles
and embarrassments... I sure did! Happy reading.
I said good bye to my family in Chicago and boarded the plane to
Anchorage. I was very fortunate in that, although I had a 7 hour
layover in Anchorage, I have a wonderful family that was willing to pick
me up and let me hang out. It was SO good to see Baby Girl and Dolly
and Deann after being gone for so long. I had become accustomed to
seeing them every day and throughout break I felt like I was missing
something. It was also wonderful to FINALLY meet Inez and her family!
After a wonderful time in Anchorage I felt like my trip home was going
to happen without a hitch. HAHAHA!
While waiting for my flight to board in Anchorage I stopped to
McDonald's one last time before heading back. If you know me well
enough you know that there is nothing I like more than a Big Mac! I
also picked up some food for my friend that would be picking me up at
the airport and letting me stay with them. (Thoughtful, right?!?)
Anyways, I decided that it would be a good idea to put some of my soda
in my tea mug (which has NEVER leaked!!!) to keep it cold (you can see
where this is going)... After "stowing my luggage in the overhead
compartments" (I've been traveling way too much) I buckle up and get
ready to take a nap on my way to Bethel. I was even nice enough to
switch seats with a woman so she can sit next to her daughter
(apparently it didn't give me enough good karma). Right before we are
getting ready to take off the man across the aisle gets up, opens the
overhead compartment that my McDonald's is in and starts messing with
it. You can image how upset I was. I jump up and ask him what he wants
and as he's telling me I realize that my tea cup had opened
(COMPLETELY) and Diet Dr. Pepper was dripping on the head of the woman
who was sitting under my stuff! (BAHAHAHAHAHA!.... did I mention I had
changed seats with her?!?... That's irony for you!) We made a quick
scramble to try to clean it up, other passengers were helping as well
and a few stewardesses (everyone knew that we weren't going anywhere
until it was cleaned up) and in the process I went to pick up my bag of
McDonald's in an effort to save the contents, without realizing that the
bottom of the bag was wet (Oh... did I mention that I had also brought a
Cinnabon through security to enjoy as a late night snack... in the
McDonald's bag) and my McDonald's as well as my Cinnabon went careening
to the ground, making even more of a mess! Luckily, I was able to save a
quarter pounder and the cinnabon, the nuggets were lost :-( (Honestly,
my mouth is watering just thinking about it right now. You can't
appreciate the liberty of being able to eat a Big Mac 24/7 until you've
lost it.) And as if matters couldn't get worse, one of the men pulled
of part of the plane trying to get the leaking to stop... the stewardess
wasn't too happy about that... and then, the only seat available was in
the exit row so of course, the woman getting Dr. Pepper dripped on her
head couldn't sit there because she was with an "unaccompanied minor
under the age of 15" so the stewardess said that I should sit there so
she could have my seat, next to a rather large woman. Wow! Did I feel
like a jerk! Not only did I delay the flight, spill soda on a woman's
head, drop fast food all over the floor, but I was also going to take
one of the most comfortable seats on the plane! Nice! LOL! The rest
of the flight went on without a hitch but there are more stories to
come... Bethel to Kipnuk was even more interesting...
Waiting for part 2!
