Crazy Week!

HELLO EVERYONE!  I hope that no one's week was as hectic as mine!  My goodness.  Everyone tells me how nice it must be to live in a place where I would have so much free time!  I definitely thought that I would have more free time.  Hahaha!  Man was I wrong!  I have been so busy since I got here.  I never have any free time.  If I'm not teaching, I'm planning, or doing after school program, or another activity with my students or hanging out with friends or steaming or going to church or going to an event in the community.  It's nuts!  But it is so wonderful.  It is wonderful to have students that want to be at school after hours!

So.. what has been taking up all time, you ask... let me tell you!

Mom sent me some dried leaves to show my students!  I was so excited to see them!  I miss autumn so much!  She also sent me a picture of Kofi and between the leaves and the picture Aimme and I cried!  LOL!  Bunch of saps!  Anyways, I showed them to my students who were in love with the leaves.  A few of my students came into my office to see what I was doing and saw the leaves.  They took them to show them to the other students and I was amazed by how delicately they held them as they walked down the halls showing all the other students.  They LOVED them!  They loved the colors and shapes and they all wanted to take them home!

Thursday was quite an interesting day!  Our school psych came out to visit and test some students.  She was supposed to take the afternoon flight out at 6 but around 4 she came up to me a said that she had heard (almost everyone in the village has a VHF unit that announces when planes are coming, when events are happening, etc.) that a flight was coming in in 15 minutes.  We tried to find one of the maintenance guys or custodians to take her to the airport but we couldn't find one.  So it was left up to me to get her to the airport in 10 minutes, now that we spent 5 minutes looking for someone to take her.  I grabbed the 4-wheeler keys, put on my jacket, found Brittany's boots, and Judy and I were off!  Haha!  Only in Bush Alaska do you have to jump on a 4-Wheeler in the middle of the school day and rush to the airport.  Nor do you usually have to drive your psychologist on the back of a 4-wheeler!  We made it to the airstrip just as her plane arrived!  Perfect timing!  Everything always seems to work out here!

I am now the coach of the Robotics Club!  After a few teachers backed out I volunteered to do it and let me tell you... the students are pumped!  I am doing First Lego League this year which is for grades 4-8.  However, from the response that I got from the 6-8th grades I could only include the 6-8th graders.  When I went to their classes to invite them to the meeting they were so excited!  We had First Lego League Robotics Club a while back at CPMS but it has been quite a few years.  I held an informational meeting on Thursday and I had 28 students show up!  It was incredible!  They were so excited and wanted to get to work right away!  When I told them that we are going to have our first meeting on Saturday at 5pm they asked if we could have it the next day before school instead! LOL!  So... I will have my first official Robotics Meeting in about a half an hour :-)  Exciting!

Robotics is about to start so I will add more later :-)
